The rib knit fabric is made from recycled cotton, recycled plastic bottles and recycled lycra. The fabric is a flexible 2x2 ribbed knit which is suitable for finishing cuffs and hem, for example. The elastic fabric is sold as a tube that measures approximately 50 cm x 60 cm (tube) or 120 cm (opened). We would finish the hem, sleeves and neckline of two Pure Waste college dresses with this amount of rib knit fabric. The fabric costs approximately €26 per metre.
Dyeing 1,000 kg of textiles normally requires 200,000 litres of clean water. Pure Waste rib knit fabric is undyed, as its colour is determined by the cutting waste gathered. Compared to an equivalent product made from virgin materials, making fabric from recycled materials uses 99% less water and generates 50% fewer CO2 emissions.
This fabric has been responsibly manufactured in India.
• Fabric size approximately 60 (tube) /120cm x 50cm • 390 gsm
Please note that our recycling process is not entirely clinical and our products may contain small amounts of different coloured fibers. In dark colours, fibers of different colours do not stand out, but in light colours they are more easily visible. For us, these little coloured fibers in our fabric are a feature that reminds us of the uniqueness and origin of our products.
• Washing temperature 40°C • Wash with similar colours • Wash inside out

Challenging the clothing industry
Collecting and sorting waste
Pure Waste products are made of 100% recycled raw materials. The main raw material, cotton cutting waste, is collected from cut, make and trim (CMT) factories and then sorted by quality and colour.
Each quality and colour batch is mechanically opened into fibres. The colour of the waste defines the colour of the final product. No dyeing is needed.
The mechanically opened cotton waste is mixed with chemically recycled polyester fibres from PET bottles.
The mixed fibres are spun into yarns. This part of the process is the same as when spinning fibres from virgin material.
Knitting and weaving
The yarns are knitted or woven depending on the final use of the fabric.
Depending on the final use of the fabric, the finishing process can include different stages such as compacting, brushing and washing.
This process consists of the cutting, making and trimming of the final product.
Finally, we get sustainable good quality garments that use 99% less water and generate 50% fewer CO2 emissions in the production process than similar products made of virgin materials.
