Cactus Stories is a Finnish product and clothing designer duo. The joint project of Nina Orkoneva and Tytti Maasalo was born out of a desire to influence the future of more sustainable and responsible design. Pure Waste x Cactus Stories prints designed for children's T-shirts are part of a consumer education vision of how design can support children's growth into environmentally conscious citizens and sustainable consumers. The design of the prints is inspired by Finnish nature: endangered animals and wild berries. The aim is to increase children's awareness and interest in different animal and plant species through these themes.
Cactus Stories Sea Buckthorn illustration is printed on our popular, all-rounder T-shirt which puts smiles on kids’ faces with its comfortable material. The Pure Waste T-shirt, made from recycled cotton and recycled plastic bottles, is designed to last. This T-shirt has a straight cut and normal-length hem. The rib around the neck opening is narrow. Suitable for both girls and boys.
Compared to an equivalent product made from virgin materials, making a T-shirt from recycled materials uses 99% less water and generates 50% fewer CO2 emissions. This
T-shirt has been responsibly manufactured in our factory in India. The logo is printed in Finland.
Made of 100 % recycled raw materials.
• 60 % recycled cotton • 40 % recycled polyester
Please note that our recycling process is not entirely clinical and our products may contain small amounts of different coloured fibers. In dark colours, fibers of different colours do not stand out, but in light colours they are more easily visible. For us, these little coloured fibers in our fabric are a feature that reminds us of the uniqueness and origin of our products.
• Washing temperature 40°C • Wash with similar colours • Wash inside out

Challenging the clothing industry
Collecting and sorting waste
Pure Waste products are made of 100% recycled raw materials. The main raw material, cotton cutting waste, is collected from cut, make and trim (CMT) factories and then sorted by quality and colour.
Each quality and colour batch is mechanically opened into fibres. The colour of the waste defines the colour of the final product. No dyeing is needed.
The mechanically opened cotton waste is mixed with chemically recycled polyester fibres from PET bottles.
The mixed fibres are spun into yarns. This part of the process is the same as when spinning fibres from virgin material.
Knitting and weaving
The yarns are knitted or woven depending on the final use of the fabric.
Depending on the final use of the fabric, the finishing process can include different stages such as compacting, brushing and washing.
This process consists of the cutting, making and trimming of the final product.
Finally, we get sustainable good quality garments that use 99% less water and generate 50% fewer CO2 emissions in the production process than similar products made of virgin materials.
